The Writing section measures your ability to use writing to communicate in an academic environment. You will complete two writing tasks. For the first task, you will read a passage and listen to a lecture, and then write a response based on what you read and heard; typically an effective response is 150 to 225 words. For the second task, you will read an online discussion in which a professor posts a question and students respond, and you will write a response that contributes to the discussion; an effective response is at least 100 words.
